With dozens of scheduled monthly activities, there is always something to do at Old Main Village. Our full-time Activities Director plans a wide variety of events for every talent and every personality. Armchair Yoga – Movements performed to soothing music. Requires no prior Yoga experience
Bible Study – Non-denominational study of the Bible with a volunteer from the community as the leader
Bingo – Play Bingo for a dime per card, and win some money!
Card Games – 500 and Bridge
Ceramics – Have fun creating beautiful ceramic items to keep or give away; no prior experience needed
Computer Pals – Meet in the library and learn new computer skills
Exercise Classes – Chair exercise, Tai Chi, and fitness class
Men’s Coffee – Join other men in the building for coffee, oatmeal cookies, juice and good conversation
News & Views – Current events class consisting of a weekly DVD and study guide to provide in-depth information and a forum for discussion of the latest news
Range of Motion – Slow, gentle exercise set to soothing background music; takes only 7 minutes to perform
Strength Training – Doctors and physical therapists recommend weight training as one of the best forms of physical exercise that active older adults can engage in
Tai Chi – Very beneficial, slow-moving, gentle Chinese exercise
Writing Your Life – Autobiography writing class. You are given a notebook to fill with your memories along with questions to guide you. We share our stories when we meet
Birthday Party/New Resident Reception – A celebration with entertainment, cake and ice cream
Book Club – Read and discuss new books
Breakfast Bunch – A breakfast outing with a staff member on the first Tuesday of each month
Club Room Forum – A lecture on various intriguing topics featuring guest speakers from the Mankato community
Coffee Hour – Meet each month for coffee with guest speakers
Crafts – Varied fun craft projects
Devotional – A pastor-led non-denominational worship service followed by Communion
Diabetes Support Group – Share information, recipes, difficulties and successes, and enjoy knowledgable guest speakers talk on Diabetic care and information
Game Day – An opportunity to play classic games with others who also enjoy them (Dominoes, Cribbage, Chinese checkers, Yahtzee, Checkers, Scrabble …)
Hand Bells – Enjoy making some very pretty music and have fun playing the hand bells with accompaniment. You don’t have to know how to read music, and no prior experience needed
Joy Rides – An adventure to various fascinating sites offered by surrounding communities
Lunch Break – Outings to small town cafes for delicious home-cooked meals and desserts
Men’s Breakfast – The men go out for breakfast with Curt and Don the second Friday of the month
Music/Art Appreciation – These rotate every month. We look at or listen to various forms of each, to learn about and appreciate the joy of music
Poetry Unfolding – We study a different poem each month. This program is about understanding poetry and developing our interpretive skills when reading poetry
Remembering When – A program to reminisce about various interesting subjects
Resident Council– Comprised of and elected by residents, the Resident Council meets each month with management as spokespeople for the greater population
Root Beer Floats – Delicious, refreshing root beer floats
Sing-Along – Those old-time songs you love to sing along with, complete with lyrics on the big screen TV
Special Programs – To celebrate special dates and events each month; varied and fun
Theme Dinners – A “special” dinner with a fun theme, decorations, wine, entertainment, favors and an extra special menu
Theme Bingo – Play for varied prizes according to the theme of the month
Travelogue – Armchair travels featuring guest speakers
Video and Popcorn – On the big screen TV
Vision Support Group – Share information, difficulties, and successes with vision issues from guest speakers
